It is frustrating to see the same pests after you have washed, wiped, or treated a plant. But “they came back” does not always mean the treatment failed. The original insects may have left eggs or protected immature stages, a nearby plant may still be carrying them, or the room may be helping the next generation develop.

Start with evidence rather than a stronger product. Look for live pests, fresh feeding damage, new honeydew, webbing, crawlers, cast skins, or new damage on recently grown tissue. Then inspect the whole collection, the pot area, and the plant's moisture and light conditions. Old scars can remain after a pest is gone.

Why do houseplant pests keep coming back?

A repeated treatment can fail because the diagnosis is wrong. Mites, thrips, and some chemical injuries can create similar stippling.
